Programs that pay for or provide lifts, transfer boards and other devices which help people who have physical disabilities move into and out of their vehicles, wheelchairs and other mobility systems. Also included are seat lift chairs, lift recliners and seat lifts which tilt to help people with limited mobility get into and out of their chairs; patient lifts that help transfer patients from beds to chairs or other locations; and portable ramps that aid people in entering/exiting vehicles or rampless buildings.

Programs that provide special chairs with large wheels, some of which are power driven, that are used to transport patients or to provide increased mobility for people who are partially paralyzed or otherwise unable to walk. Also included are other types of personal wheeled transportation such as the Amigo.

Programs that sell new, used and/or reconditioned assistive technology products on a retail or discount basis.

Family members, friends, neighbors and others who assume responsibility for attending to the daily needs of individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves due to general frailty; illnesses, injuries or progressively debilitating conditions such as Alzheimer's disease or mental illness; or other incapacitating problems without compensation. Some, but not all, states have programs that help people pay for the caregiver of their choice, and in certain circumstances that can be a family member. Most of these programs have income and other eligibility requirements that the care recipient must meet, and strict rules often apply as to who can be paid for the caregiving. Benefits may also be available for veterans and their families through the Veteran's Administration.

Individuals who have physical, sensory, developmental, cognitive, mental or emotional limitations, illnesses or injuries that affect their ability to engage in one or more major life activities. Disabilities and health conditions may be temporary or permanent, may be present at birth or occur at any point in a person's lifetime, and can be of different levels of severity.
