Programs that offer a telephone service that enables people who are troubled to talk confidentially about their personal problems with an empathetic listener. These programs are often staffed by volunteers who can offer referrals for ongoing treatment, if needed.

Programs that maintain information about community resources that are appropriate for a specific target group or human services sector (for example, youth programs or addiction services) and which link individuals who are in need of specialized services with appropriate resources and/or which provide information about community agencies and organizations that offer specialized services.

Programs that provide information about specific health and health-related topics including diseases and conditions, birth control, alcohol and drug abuse, mental health, safety and other similar topics that interested individuals can access on a website or in person, or by telephone, email, chat, text or other communication channel. Information may be in a self-serve, browsable format (for example a web resource directory or library of audio recordings) or provided by live agents with expertise in the field.

Individuals who are generally between the ages of 18 and 25 depending on the ages that specific programs use for qualification.

A group of symptoms (including certain infections and/or cancers) that collectively characterize the condition and are the result of a weakening of the immune system caused by infection with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).

Individuals who have tested positive on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) antibody test but who have developed no symptoms of AIDS (asymptomatic HIV infections) or are beginning to develop symptoms but do not yet have full-blown AIDS (symptomatic HIV infections).

The parents, children, spouses, partners, friends or other relatives or significant others of people who have tested positive on the HIV antibody test or have developed AIDS, whose own patterns of personal, social and familial coping have been significantly affected by concern about the individual.

People who identify as part of the gender and sexually expansive community that includes people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer, pansexual, intersex, asexual, bigender, genderqueer, third gender, pangender, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, agender or allied, or who are in the process of coming out or questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity.
